Saving New Zealand’s Native Birds

help save new zealand birds with me!!

Fernbird/matata

The fernbird stays well hidden i low scrub, usally near fresh water and in tidel swamps. It slips through the low tangles of branches like a mouse, searchng for insects and spiders. A good place to see fernbirds is actully namd after them:matata lagoons, west of Whakatane. The trick to find them is to listen for there call which sounds like this:”utik” sound which is usally produced by a pair of birds, one calling “uu” part, theother answering “tik”. Easily actressed by making simple squeaks, either by rubbing a peice of cork or polystyrene on wet grass, or simply by sucking air beetwen your teeth. Early settlers called it “SWAMP-SPARROW”

Birds that fly!

there are lots of birds that fly and some don’t. to help save them you need to try and let little kids know that it is not o.k to chase birds in the park because it will scare the birds away. Kea’s, tui’s, fatails(piwakawaka)are some of the native birds to New Zealand which are all mostly my favourite!!!!!!!!!Some of the these birds eat fruits e.g berries and apples. There you go that is most of the stuff i know but i will find out more!!!

puekeko!!!

Puekekos are just like kiwis because they can not fly but they are not nocturnall like the kiwi.

the colours are : blue, black and sometimes red!!!
